What Is an Escape Room?
Escape rooms have become increasingly popular over the past decade as a fun and challenging group activity. These interactive escape games are designed to test your problem-solving skills, teamwork, and creativity as you try to escape a themed room before time runs out. So, what exactly is an escape room?
An escape room is a physical adventure game where players are locked in a themed room and must solve a series of puzzles and riddles to escape before the time runs out. The puzzles can be physical, mental, or a combination of both, and they often require players to search for hidden clues, manipulate objects, or use their senses to uncover hidden elements.
Escape games are designed for groups of people, usually ranging from 2 to 10 players. Each escape game has a time limit, usually ranging from 45 minutes to an hour, during which players must complete the game and escape the room. If the time runs out before the team is able to escape, the game is over.
What to Expect upon Arrival
Choose Your Adventure!
Pick a thrilling escape game to play! Our escape rooms have themes ranging from exhilarating action or mystery to light-hearted and wholesome. Examples of popular themes include prison breaks, secret agents, and even Christmas for all seasons.
Meet Your Game Guide!
The group will typically be given a brief introduction to the story behind the room, which sets the scene and provides context for the puzzles and challenges that follow. This is an opportunity for your game guide to explain rules and answer any questions you might have before your game.
Begin Your Experience!
Once inside the room, players will need to work together to uncover clues, solve puzzles, and progress through the game. Communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are essential for success, as players will need to use logic and creativity to figure out each challenge.
Stuck in Your Escape Game?
A good rule of thumb is if you haven’t made progress in the last 5-10 minutes, it’s a good time to ask your Game Guide for a clue! Our staff strive to make your escape game the best possible experience and help your team escape.
Escape the Room!
For some escape rooms, the end goal is escaping the room, like in a prison break room. Other rooms might task you with catching a saboteur or finding missing treasure, maybe uncovering evidence to put a mob boss behind bars, or recovering stolen loot from an outlaw gang.
Tips on How To Escape an Escape Room
First time escape room players are often unsure of where to start, but time is of the essence! So here are some general tips to prepare you for your escape game:
1. Look Everywhere: in, under, and around
A successful escape relies on your ability to be observant, find clues, and solve engaging puzzles. When you first enter the room, don’t hesitate to begin looking for clues. Search inside any open container, drawers, or objects that open. Be sure to flip through books, look under furniture, and study any art on the walls for patterns.
2. Communicate with Your Team
One of the most important things in an escape game is teamwork. Make sure you communicate with your team members and share any clues or puzzles you find.
3. Organize Your Clues
Put every clue you find in a central location so that your team members can refer back to it. This will ensure that everyone has access to all the information available. Keep track of which clues have been used and what puzzles have been solved already by setting things aside in a “used” pile. This helps to keep team members from wasting time on already completed puzzles.
4. Divide and Conquer
Sometimes there may be multiple puzzles or clues that need to be solved simultaneously. Split up your team and use everyone’s skills to your advantage. Some players may be great at riddles, while others are good at recognizing patterns.
5. Don’t Forget to Keep Track of Time
Remember, you only have a limited amount of time to escape the room and time can really slip away when you’re focused on a problem. Don’t waste time on irrelevant clues or get stuck on one puzzle for too long. Sometimes you might find a clue that goes to a puzzle that has yet to be discovered. Move on and come back to it later if needed. Ask your Game Guide for a hint if you find yourself spinning your wheels.
6. Most Importantly, Have Fun!
Escape rooms are designed to be fun experiences. Don’t take it too seriously and enjoy the challenge with your team. Stay positive and don’t give up!
